Jake and Ryan Fritz are two sweet boys, ages 6 and 10 who live in Pottstown, PA. Both boys have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive muscle-wasting disease with little treatment and no cure. Progression of this terrible disease includes the loss of one’s ability to walk around age 12 (we have just ordered a power wheelchair for Jake,) continued weakness resulting in the need for total assistance with all daily activities (eventually including breathing) and a life expectancy in the early twenties.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy can be either genetic or occur spontaneously in any generation. In Jake and Ryan’s case, there was no family history. For the past five years, the Fritz family has been raising funds for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (www.endduchenne.org) , a non-profit organization that supports advocacy and research efforts related to Duchenne MD. More recently, the family has been faced with over one hundred thousand dollars worth of expenses related to the boys’ disease progression, including the need for home modifications, assistive medical equipment and a wheelchair adaptive van. This webpage is in response to these needs.
The Hope Rocks for Jake and Ryan Benefit on October 12, 2013 will raise funds for Happy 2 be Home (www.happy2behome.org) , a non-profit organization working with the Fritz family to provide disease-related home modifications. Please hit the benefit tickets button to reserve tickets.
The donation button on this website (for those who may not be able to attend) will raise funds toward the purchase of a handicapped accessible van.
Jake and Ryan Fritz enjoy playing legos, creating art, computer games and playing with their two cats, Millie and Lucky. Their extended family is also very invested in providing as quality a life as possible for these two dear boys.
With all our hearts, thank you for reading this, spreading the word and helping us to make Jake and Ryan’s lives comfortable and happy!
